ABB has recently been awarded a contract by Hitachi Rail (Hitachi Rail STS USA, Inc.) to provide traction power equipment for the Hurontario Light Rail Transit (HuLRT) project in Toronto, Canada. Among its roles, Hitachi leads the Systems and Revenue Vehicle components of the project. The contract value of the Hurontario LRT is $4.6 billion. The Hurontario LRT is expected to open in late 2024.

Motor disconnects are more than simple on-off devices to satisfy lockout-tagout requirements. They have become an integral part of the motor control circuit as disconnects increasingly offer control functions, such as auxiliary contact interface, added selector switches and push buttons.
There are several types of DC motors, including shunt, series, compound wound or stabilized shunt, permanent magnet, and brushless DC. The main differences between these types of motors revolve around how the electromagnetic fields are generated. For example, in a permanent magnet motor, the magnetic field in the stator is supplied by permanent magnets positioned just inside the frame of the motor.
Many engineering advancements provide small incremental gains of efficiency, cost, and functionality. However, some engineering milestones provide giant leaps of improvement.
