Yaskawa Whitepaper: Lumber Mill Solution Upgraded with Energy Efficient Matrix Drives

The Ontario government is supporting an investment of nearly $5.5 million by three companies in Eastern Ontario to help strengthen local manufacturing, create jobs, attract investment and boost regional economic recovery. The province is investing nearly $633,000 through the Regional Development Program, which will help create 20 jobs.“The Regional Development Program continues to support local manufacturers through targeted investments that allow businesses to create good local jobs,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “We thank Kawartha Metals, Colonial Concepts Log & Timberframe and Bélair Mechatronics for making a significant impact in their communities and for contributing to our province’s dynamic and growing manufacturing sector.”
With the continuing changes seen within the Covid-19 virus strains, it’s vital that any samples can be analysed as rapidly as possible. Two Bavarian companies, GriPS Automation GmbH and D&T engineering GmbH, have worked together with OMRON to streamline the pipetting part of the process, reducing processing time from one hour to ten minutes per plate. As a result, the three companies have developed the PT600 laboratory processing system for the transfer of samples, using an OMRON Cobra 450 robot for contactless transport.
Labour and skills shortages are among the most pressing challenges that manufacturers face today. Access to a large, high-quality workforce is critical for manufacturing to be successful. In this article, Greg James, Regional Sales Manager – Festo Didactic Ltd. shines some light onto what is being done in Canada to help ensure there are enough skilled workers available to keep the factory of the future running.
There are many requirements to meet when specifying transformers, such as basic performance parameters that include kVA, low and high voltage ratings, line frequency, etc. One must also consider the environment in which the transformer will be used. It is common in many industrial locations to find hazardous materials such as flammable liquids, gasses, vapors or combustible dusts in sufficient concentration to produce an explosion or fire.
Fitness trackers for people are a genuine success story: more than 40 million are already in use worldwide, helping individuals to stay healthy and improve their fitness. Monitoring and saving vital data like heartrate and blood pressure, the device tracks not only current fitness but also follows an individual’s fitness development over time.
The other day I came across an interesting article that takes us back to some early innovations regarding the use of electric motors in manufacturing facilities. The article titled “The Electric Motor in Factories”, and was published in Science by the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1889.
Weidmüller’s scalable engineering software, u-control 2000, adapts individually to your requirements. And, the u-control is powerful, compact and fully compatible with Weidmüller’s I/O system u-remote. This article looks at what makes u-control the heart of your automation.
Programmable logic controllers (PLCs) are one of the main components of any automated system. A typical control system has inputs, outputs, controllers (i.e., PLCs), and some type of human interaction with the system, a human machine interface (HMI), for example.
September 16, 2025 In the race toward smarter, more automated industrial operations, every microsecond counts. In response to rising demands for higher precision, speed, and synchronization across industries like robotics, packaging, and semiconductors, EtherCAT has become the standard for high-performance motion control. Its unique “on-the-fly” processing principle delivers deterministic, high-speed communication that traditional industrial Ethernet… Read More…
September 9, 2025 By Krystie Johnston Schneider Electric Canada is leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to transform energy management across various end markets. To help buildings in Canada reach net zero, Schneider takes a multi-pronged approach to leverage AI to identify energy inefficiencies in homes and commercial and industrial institutions and monitor and adapt the technologies… Read More…
