Toshiba Industrial Products Canada Receives Certification Approval for CSA N299 Compliance Products

November 18, 2020

Toshiba Industrial Products Canada (TIPCA), a wholly owned subsidiary of Toshiba International Corporation (TIC), is proud to announce Canadian Standard Association (CSA) N299 certification for TIPCA’s Quality Assurance Program. This certification allows TIPCA to continue to supply motor products to the Canadian nuclear power market without interruption. TIPCA had previously been certified to supplying motors under the preceding quality assurance standard CSA Z299.

The N299 quality standard was recently implemented at TIPCA and audited by CANPAC, on behalf of Canadian nuclear power plants. Performing a quality assurance audit during COVID-19 presented unique challenges for both TIPCA and the audit team. “Once again, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all TIPCA employees who were contacted during the audit and especially to you for your wonderful cooperation and diligence before and during the audit. I appreciate your patience in working through the issues of scheduling the audit, the type of audit we were going to have (virtual and onsite activities). You helped make the process a seamless one in spite the COVID-19 situation,” said Viren Malelu lead auditor of CANPAC.

TIPCA completed the audit with no findings and is in compliance with the CSA N299.2 quality assurance program. TIC and TIPCA are continuing the path to improvement by working towards the 10 CFR 50 Appendix B certification for the U.S. Nuclear Power market with expected completion in early 2021.

Toshiba’s nuclear motors are designed and tested to meet specific environmental and operating conditions. Our TIPCA facility offers a wide range of customized nuclear motors ranging in sizes from ½ HP to 11,000 HP and 230 V to 13,800 V. Toshiba’s motors undergo a vigorous testing process at on-site test labs, which meet ISO 9001:2015, NVLAP Lab Code 20088-0 and UL and CSA certifications. Tests include performance and seismic qualification. Engineered with advanced materials for high performance and longer life, our extensive nuclear products and large installed base in the industry demonstrates our customers’ confidence in choosing Toshiba.
