New Catalog, New Power. SmartD

The SmartD Clean Power VFD Catalog v07 is finally here — and it’s more than just an update. It’s a leap forward.

From the very first page, you will notice what has changed — and what has not. SmartD kept what made their drives stand out: the true sine wave, the SiC-powered AFE, the plug-and-play experience. But they have made everything clearer, sharper, and more useful to you — the engineer, the integrator, the decision-maker.

Here’s what is new and why it matters:

  •  Long Cable Freedom Explained — Now officially rated up to 15,000 ft, no dv/dt filters, no VFD-rated cables.
  •  New Sizing Tables — Easier to read, with clarified current values per voltage level and precise motor pairing guidance.
  •  Real-World Applications, Clearly Stated — See how our drives serve mining pits, data centers, slurry pumps, HVAC chillers, and more — all in plain, practical language.
  •  Updated Protections & Alarms — Because no one likes surprises.
  •  Dual Ethernet ports — SmartD is speaking your language — be it Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, or BACnet/IP.

Available in French and English.

And yes — it still fits your panel with half the footprint, needs no filters, and extends motor life by making the motor forget it is not connected to the grid.

So go ahead — download it. Open it  Bookmark it. Build with it.

The Story of How SmartD Revolutionized Motor Control for the 21st Century

When Simon Leblond, CEO of SmartD Technologies Inc. and his co-founders set out to start a new company, they did not know that they would be revolutionizing the way we approach motor control. Leblond has twenty years of experience developing successful startups but knew nothing about VFDs when he started SmartD. About six years ago, he and three colleagues started the company, not really knowing what it would do.

“We kind of did what I tell every startup founder not to do. When I coach startup founders, I always tell them to start with a problem and then find a solution to it. We started with a technology: wide-band gap semiconductors, specifically Gallium Nitride (GaN) and Silicon Carbide (SiC). These are revolutionary semiconductors for power electronics; they can switch much faster with much lower losses [than conventional materials]. And as my co-founders and I were looking at different opportunities, we really felt that we were at an inflection point for these semiconductor materials, so we started looking for applications for them.”

Programmable logic controllers (PLCs) are one of the main components of any automated system. A typical control system has inputs, outputs, controllers (i.e., PLCs), and some type of human interaction with the system, a human machine interface (HMI), for example.
