Parker Hannifin: Why Right Sizing Matters

Limitations on the electrical power system make it important for the customer to reduce harmonics in their system to avoid voltage disruption and overheating of the mechanical and electrical components within the industrial plant. There are several ways to reduce harmonics, each with its costs and benefits. Drives & Control Solutions had the opportunity to hear from Martin Royer, local Division Manager for System Drives at ABB Canada, to discuss why Ultra-Low Harmonic Drives (ULH) with an active front-end are a preferred choice for businesses and utility owners.
What will the automotive marketplace look like in 10 years and how do I prepare for it? That’s the question foremost on the minds of the powertrain plant personnel I encounter in my work as an industry consultant. It’s not an easy question to answer given that we are in the midst of a truly revolutionary time in the automotive industry.
What will the factory of the future look like? This is the question that many professionals in the automation and manufacturing industries are seeking to answer. While most proposed descriptions are lofty yet lacking in concrete details, there are also many attempts to extrapolate from cutting-edge technologies that already exist. What we need to do is connect the grandiose vision with the minutiae, and its sweeping (and yet unrealized) capabilities with today’s real-world applications that sit right on the boundary between practical and experimental. Omron’s “three I’s of automation” – integrated, intelligent, and interactive – offer us a way to do this.
May 15, 2024 Grass GmbH, a global manufacturer of movement systems – including telescopic slides – required a safety upgrade of a complete press line for steel forming at their Salzburg plant. Where normative safety requirements are concerned, presses have a special status: so they were looking for a partner that was able to convert…
If you still only view safety as a matter of compliance, you’re missing the bigger picture in the era of smart manufacturing.
Smart, networked safety can deliver measurable business benefits. And it can push the boundaries of what’s possible in your operations.

This article aims to explain the differences between the types of servo motors, enhancing your understanding of when and why to use each type. AC Servo Motors AC servo motors…

Weidmüller’s scalable engineering software, u-control 2000, adapts individually to your requirements. And, the u-control is powerful, compact and fully compatible with Weidmüller’s I/O system u-remote. This article looks at what makes u-control the heart of your automation.
Programmable logic controllers (PLCs) are one of the main components of any automated system. A typical control system has inputs, outputs, controllers (i.e., PLCs), and some type of human interaction with the system, a human machine interface (HMI), for example.
