World-leading drive specialist SEW-EURODRIVE and software and automation expert TTTech Digital Solutions announce their strategic collaboration. The aim of the cooperation is to integrate SEW-EURODRIVE’s axis and drive systems into the software-based control and automation platform UBIQUE®, in order to offer customers an open, modern and future-proof concept for their machine automation.

Through this cooperation, SEW-EURODRIVE combines its long-standing expertise in drive technology with TTTech Digital Solutions’ digital expertise in real-time control and automation. The UBIQUE® platform (“cloud-driven automation”) unites OT and IT and offers functions such as real-time motion control, cybersecurity, safety, web HMI, I/O, and edge/IIoT.

The combination of SEW-EURODRIVE axes and UBIQUE® creates an open, integrated system that offers mechanical engineering companies and plant operators a powerful and flexible solution for modern automation requirements. UBIQUE® users gain direct access to the SEW-EURODRIVE MOVI-C automation system and all connected geared motor solutions.

UBIQUE® makes customers independent of specialized hardware such as IPCs, servo controllers, or HMI platforms in the long term, while the combination of proven mechanical drives and modern control systems shortens development times. Furthermore, UBIQUE® covers the entire product lifecycle – from the axis to the cloud, including edge devices, remote maintenance, and lifecycle management. This collaboration thus supports the transition to a “software-defined factory,” networked systems, and sustainable production. And security is not neglected either: UBIQUE® is Cyber Secure according to IEC 62443 and supports the implementation of the EU Machinery Directive 2023/1230.

“By integrating our products into UBIQUE®, we enable our customers to think about their automation solutions in an open, flexible and scalable way. This allows us to consistently follow our strategy of integrating drive technology into digital ecosystems,” summarizes Dr. Hans Krattenmacher, Managing Director Innovation Mechatronics at SEW-EURODRIVE, regarding the advantages for customers.

Christoph Trappl, Managing Director of TTTech Digital Solutions, adds: “The cooperation with SEW EURODRIVE opens up completely new approaches to motion control solutions for machine builders. The seamless integration of UBIQUE® allows users to change and archive all parameters and configurations, from the motor to the cloud – naturally with cyber security according to IEC62443.”

As a first step, selected machine and production line customers of SEW-EURODRIVE will initially be able to utilize the integration of UBIQUE®-based control solutions – including edge functionality, remote monitoring, and lifecycle management. In parallel, both companies are developing a joint engineering roadmap to offer standardized, modular automation packages in the long term. The future plan is to make the solution available not only for new systems but also as a retrofit option for existing systems.
