Nidec Instruments Develops New Gas Water Heater Pump

Nidec Corporation has announced that Nidec Instruments Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company, has newly developed a compact low-vibration and -noise pump for water heaters.

Nidec Instruments’ Latest Water Heater Pump

Recent years have witnessed a growing demand for water heater pumps to be not only light and compact, but low-vibration and -noise as well, so as not to cause noise issues when used late at night.

Nidec Instruments’ latest pump has developed for water heaters that do not generate any cold water immediately after being activated even in wintertime. For these “no-cold-water” water heaters, size and noise-level reduction has been an issue more than ever, as they need to have a pump that works even when hot water is not being used, and are often installed in rooms in condominium apartments.

Employing a sine wave drive-type sensor-less vector control IC – a component that enables a smoother rotation than the conventional square wave drive system – to control its rotor’s spin, the aforementioned product can keep its vibration and noise levels low. Further, the analysis of both motor vibration and the resonance frequency with water heaters to use this pump has enabled a resonance-avoiding design, making the product one of the quietest pumps in the industry.

In addition, to improve its winding space factor, the pump employs a curling core – which casts a motor core into a round shape after winding wires around a linear core – to be 20% lighter in volume than existing products.

As a member of the world’s leading comprehensive motor manufacturer, Nidec Instruments stays committed to proposing revolutionary solutions that contribute to creating a comfortable society.
