Endress+Hauser Battery-Powered Cellular Flowmeter Fills Gap in Remote Water Measurement

In a country as vast as Canada, fresh and process water often is piped significant distances through remote areas where there is no possibility of providing flow measurement devices with energy or data transfer capability via power or land lines. Endress+Hauser has developed the batterypowered Proline Promag W 800 electromagnetic flowmeter for those situations. The Promag W 800 provides highly accurate measurement with maintenance-free operations and worldwide data transfer via cellular radio for up to 15 years. It even supports integrated cloud connectivity.

The Promag measurement technology affords consistent, seamless consumption measurements with a maximum measured error of ±0.5%, and reliable monitoring of important variables such as volume, totalizer, limits, etc. For the accounts receivable folks, it can provide exact cost allocation and billing data.

The Promag W 800 also ensures the efficient and time-saving maintenance of water supply networks. For example, leaks can be localized reliably and promptly, so water losses are kept to a minimum. Targeted leakage detection can be performed by water balancing between two measuring points or by reading in pressure changes caused by water losses.

This battery powered flowmeter is suitable for measuring lake, river, spring or ground water, for drinking and process water as well as for applications in metered distribution networks. It’s ideal for consumption measurements when irrigating large agricultural areas.

For future-oriented communications, the Proline 800 transmitter includes everything needed in minimal space: measuring electronics, batteries, data logger and a cellular radio module to send and receive data worldwide via LTE Cat M1, LTE Cat NB1 or EGPRS.

Furthermore, it can be used to call up measured values and status messages online, such as flow, pressure, totalizer, device and process status, alarm messages, level of battery charge and more. Various Endress+Hauser solution tools are available for this purpose, such as the “Netilion Value” app for easy access to the most important measured values of a specific device, or the “Netilion Water Network Insights”, a cloud-based solution for monitoring and visualizing extensive water networks in which Promag W 800 is employed.

For onsite data collection, Promag W 800 has a backlit display that makes reading the measured values quick and easy. Endress+Hauser’s SmartBlue app is used for operational and more comprehensive data retrieval.

Flowmeters are often exposed to heat, dust or climatic variations, like Canada’s four distinct seasons. Installation under water or underground is even more demanding. The robust and fully welded Promag W sensor is highly resistant to all such environmental challenges.

The integrated Heartbeat Technology makes it possible to monitor Promag flowmeters continuously, verify their functional capability at the press of a button and thus provide evidence of consistently high measuring accuracy within the specification. This enables assured compliance with the regulations that apply to fiscal metering measuring points – during operation and without interrupting the process. If Promag W 800 is part of the Netilion Water Network Insights solution, users can start and view this metrologically traceable verification function directly over the cloud, anytime and anywhere.

Promag W 800 is available with various drinking water approvals such as KTW/W270, WRAS BS6920, ACS or NSF 61.
